attractions of Ajmer Rajasthan

About UsThe city of Ajmer was founded by Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan in the 7th century. A green oasis surrounded by barren hills, Ajmer is one of the most important pilgrimage centers in India today. It is a city that is also known for its communal harmony and a plethora of attractions that draw many tourists to it. Some of the most famous attractions of Ajmer in Rajasthan are:

Ajmer Dargah Sharif
Though a Muslim shrine, the dargah of Ajmer Sharif is revered by pilgrims of all religions. It was built in honor of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti who dedicated his life to the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden. Today, thousands of pilgrims visit the dargah every year to pay their respects to the saint. The dargah receives the highest number of visitors during the festival of Urs, one of the most important festivals of Ajmer.

Taragarh Fort
Overlooking the city of Ajmer, the majestic Taragarh Fort is indeed a sight to behold. Situated on the Nagpahari hills, the fort has as many as six entrances and offers breathtaking views of the city below. The fort also houses the dargah of Miran Saheb, the governor of the fort who sacrificed his life while defending Taragarh. Today, the fort not only offers a good insight into the history of the city but also boasts of great archaeological importance.

Adhai Din ka Jhopra
A fine example of Indo-Islamic architecture, this old mosque is said to have been built in two and a half days. This is the reason behind the name given to the structure. Made up of seven pointed arches and a front screen wall, the structure is quite an interesting place to visit during a tour to Ajmer in Rajasthan.

Other attractions of Ajmer include Shahjahan’s Mosque and Mayo College. Besides, there are many interesting excursion sites situated near Ajmer, the Pushkar Lake being one of them. Indeed, a travel to Rajasthan in India should also include a trip to Ajmer that is truly an experience worth cherishing.
